At the movies: Crimes of The Future.
A new Cronenberg film is a time for rejoicing. I cannot express the joy that this film brings, and I recommend it so very, very highly.

At the Movies: And Everything is Going Fine.
It seriously fucked me up when Spalding Gray killed himself. Steven Soderbergh's remembrance of him, the masterful And Everything Is Going Fine, is opening here in Nashville for a few days' run. Don't miss it; it is a portrait of a great artist doing what he does best.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Grace Jones.

Grace Jones is a goddess, and it breaks my heart that she is only doing two stops in the U.S. on her Hurricane tour this summer. Costumes by Eiko Ishioka (Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Cell, The Fall, Mishima, the upcoming Spiderman musical). The song is thanks to La Mome Edith Piaf, but La Jones has been singing it for thirty-teo years, and it still sounds ravishing. Behold.
There are lots of other YouTubed excerpts from the show, but this is the one I wanted to share.

Six Minutes to Change your Life.
So much happens. What a weird meeting of the masters of funk dancing...
Oddly enough, my favorite moment is James Brown just calling out "Prince? Prince? Prince?" Magnificent.
