At the movies: The Black Phone.

 

An upsetting work that sticks in my mind. As far as the controversy regarding Ethan Hawke's character's mannerisms, and if it's meant to be 'gayface,' I didn't get that vibe. But I'm also feeling fraught around the spikier discourses these days, so I'm happy to let others take the lead in this discussion.

At the movies: Freaky and Come Play.







So, after a particularly awesome night at the drive-in out in Watertown, I got to delight in Freaky and Come Play. Both of them were quite enjoyable, for very different reasons. The former is deliciously funny and vicious, and the latter has a great monster. I mean, a genuinely great monster.

At the movies: The Gallows.

I talk a lot about movies. Often I write that way as well. So occasionally, I like to try and Dogme things up a bit, and use an exacting word count to try and distill my thoughts on a film to the bone. So for this particular film, my editor and I agreed on 100 words. What do you think?
